Direct or Dye Sublimation

Dye-sublimation is a printing technology which dyes polyester fabric by releasing heat-activated gases which bond with the fibres, resulting in a brilliant finish with photographic quality which is also weather resistant and washer safe. The actual process involves printing a digital file on special transfer paper, using our large format Roland printer, and then heat-pressing the images to fabric using a large format rotary heat press.

The end result is remarkable! Brilliant full-process colour at 720 to 1400 dpi, from simple to highly complex designs, printed on several standard polyester fabrics or other specialty fabrics including matt polyester, satin, jockey silk, trilobel, etc….

In dye-sublimation banner printing, colours are not printed
as individual dots, as is done in conventional banner printing. Individual dots can be distinguished at a relatively close distance, making digital pictures look less photo realistic. The main difference between this and other types of ink jet printing or banner printing has to do with heat. The vaporized colours permeate the surface of the paper, creating a gentle gradation at the edges of each pixel, instead of the conspicuous border between dye and paper produced by inkjets. And because the colour infuses the paper, it is also less vulnerable to fading and
distortion over time as well as being washable.
